GOD, WHO ARE YOU? | GOD IS OUR SUSTAINER

One of the great privileges of pastoring is walking alongside people. We often get invited to their mountaintops and their valleys. We get to hear so many testimonies of how God has provided for people and pray for people while they’re in the waiting. It’s in the waiting that hear the greatest pain and, sometimes...

it’s in the waiting that I hear the greatest healing.

When someone shares with me how God has changed their heart before He has changed their circumstances, I know we’re standing in a miracle. This doesn’t mean we don’t pray for much-improved circumstances. People have real pain in their lives, real stress in their finances, real damage in their relationships, and real trauma from abuse; every bit of it breaks my heart and breaks God’s heart even more. I never pray for a delay in healing or provision, but I always pray for peace to come first. Because then we get to experience the gift of being sustained by the Sustainer.

Read 2 Corinthians 12:1-10

Paul had many mountaintop moments and many valley moments. In this passage, he gives us insight that even during the times he was ministering powerfully and serving faithfully, he was still suffering silently. However, he could continue to serve because he was sustained in his suffering. The Sustainer revealed all that Paul needs. “My grace is all you need. My power works best in weakness.” The grace that the Lord is offering to us is His enabling power and unearned favor. It is so tempting to look to the world to sustain us in our suffering or stress. From mindsets to medicines to manifesting; none of them, no matter how well packaged or promoted or produced, can come close to the grace the Lord is offering us. He is our Sustainer.

  • What have you believed about God as a Sustainer?

  • What is God revealing to You about being your Sustainer?
