GOD, WHAT DO YOU PROMISE ME? | GOD PROMISES HE IS UNCHANGING

I have an interesting relationship with change. Naturally, I say I don’t like it. I like predictability, consistency, and repetitiveness. I like rhythms and habits and routines; I like order. I like knowing what to expect, and especially don’t like change that I didn’t see coming. I don’t like change I didn’t choose.

However, I have prayed quite a few prayers asking for change. When we needed a breakthrough in our finances, I pleaded for change, whether that be in our income, our expenses, or our mindset. I didn’t care where the change would come from; I just wanted change. I’ve pleaded for God to bring change in relationships, in jobs, and in homes.

I guess it’s not change that is hard for me; it’s not being able to control change that is hard for me. When I want change, I want it. When I don’t, I don’t. The problem is, so much of the change that God has brought into my life, that I have resisted and resented, has brought the greatest blessing into my life.

Turns out, God is much better at being in charge of change than I am.

I’m so thankful God knows exactly how to manage change, and when it’s needed versus when it’s not. I’m thankful that while He can be trusted to manage change in my life, He Himself is unchanging. Who He is, cannot be changed. This is why we can trust Him with our lives. Because we can always trust in Who He is.

Read Hebrews 6:13-20

God wants us to believe this promise that He is unchanging, but He doesn’t want us to just know it or even just believe it; He wants us to live differently because of it. Anything courageous or brave that I have done in my life, this Promise has been the foundation. Knowing that God is always good, always true, always holy, always just, and always merciful means I can always trust His motive. And if His motive is good, I’ll submit to any method.

  • What have you believed about God’s Promise that He doesn’t change?

  • What is God revealing to you about His Promise that He doesn’t change?
